Music Saturday

It’s been a long summer (I know it’s far from over, but the Midget starts back at school on Monday, so it’s essentially over for the Rawson house). It’s been a summer of friends visiting, injuries, sickness, travel, and just keeping the kids entertained. More or less, free time has been a commodity that I’ve been lacking.

But it’s one of those rare Saturday’s where Mrs. Rawson has taken both the girls out and I have the house entirely to myself and I can sit in my office and work and listen to music. I’m working on my current WIP, wrapping up my latest column for Gamut magazine, and editing a few new short stories.

Anyway, here’s what I’m listening to while I’m glued to my desk.

The summer of 2017 has been all about Delta Blues for me. I love listening to it and so does the baby, so it gets a lot of play. Here’s a few artists I’ve been into.

Mississippi John Hurt

Bessie Smith

Reverend Robert Wilkins

Soft Sounds from Another Planet By Japanese Breakfast

Their first album was some serious naval gazing pop, but the new one has a bit more upbeat charm. It still qualifies as navel gazing, though.

4:44 By Jay-Z

Proof that billionaires are kind of dicks no matter where they start out from. It’s still worth a listen.

Flower Boy By Tyler The Creator

I’ve only listened to it a couple of times, but I like it a lot.

Anyway, that’s it, back to work.
